This town was first named Sussex by its residents, but this name was rejected by the Post Office citing its prior
use in New Brunswick. In 1884, they selected "Craven" named after William Craven,
Earl of Craven (1606-1697), who was noted for his devotion to Queen Elizabeth I.

Lost Mountain Provincial Historic Park

This is the site of a fur-trading post that operated from 1869-71. Park interpreters give
tours of the site’s three restored buildings. Open Thursday - Monday, noon to 6 pm, July 1 to Labour Day.
