This 5000 resident city is Saskatchewan’s smallest! The city was named for Charles Melville Hayes,
the president of the Grand Trunk Railway (predecessor to the Canadian National Railway), who
perished on the Titanic in 1912. Melville is on the main line of the CNR, with important north-south connections as well,
and became a major railway service centre in the early 1900s,
The railway is still the town’s largest employer, and the railway remains important for shipping the potash mined in nearby Esterhazy.
The area around Melville has many of Saskatchewan’s most unusual geographic features.
The city hosts the Art Show (early May), Chamber of Commerce Parade (early June), Summer Fair
at the Melville and District Agri-Park (mid June), Canada Day parade (July 1),
Showstoppers Grass Drags (late Aug), Autumn Classic Golf Tournament (late Aug).

Railway Museum

This museum has several exhibits and rail pieces to show the significance of the railroad to the
community. See a locomotive, a flat car, and a caboose as well as items used in various
aspects of railroad operation including signalling, scheduling, servicing and safety.
Open June - August 1pm to 5 pm.
